Year 5/6
Welcome to Year 5/6!
We have an exciting term ahead with lots of fantastic learning opportunities to look forward to. In Maths, we will be developing our understanding of place value, building confidence with larger numbers and applying our knowledge to solve a range of problems.
In English, we will be exploring the beautiful and thought-provoking wordless picture book The Arrival by Shaun Tan. Through this inspiring text, we will develop our reading, writing and inference skills while exploring themes of belonging, journeys and new beginnings.
Our History topic will take us back in time to discover the fascinating world of the Ancient Egyptians. We will investigate what life was like in Ancient Egypt, learn about pharaohs, pyramids and mummification, and explore why this incredible civilisation is still remembered today.
In Design and Technology, we will be designing and making our own Christmas tree decorations. As part of this project, we will develop our sewing skills by learning and practising running stitch and blanket stitch.
In Science, we will be investigating different materials and their properties through a range of practical, hands-on enquiries, helping us to think and work like scientists.
Our Year 5 pupils also have the exciting Patterdale residential to look forward to—a fantastic opportunity to develop teamwork, resilience and independence while enjoying the great outdoors.
It's going to be a busy and exciting term, packed with new challenges, memorable experiences and plenty of opportunities to learn, create and have fun. We can't wait to get started!
