Mathematics:

Our maths curriculum focuses on enabling children to master early number strategies to build strong foundations for future mathematical learning and problem solving. Also, the teaching of how to identify, apply and connect ideas enables our children to tackle new and more complex problems. Deliberately taught mathematical language strengthens conceptual understanding by enabling children to verbalise their reasoning with growing confidence. This is carefully introduced and reinforced through frequent discussion to ensure it is meaningfully understood. We know children must be given time and opportunities to fully explore mathematical concepts and this is taught through the ‘concrete – pictorial – abstract’ approach. Opportunities to apply concepts learnt in maths are integrated into the wider EYFS curriculum.
